Research Assistant – Philly NavSTAR

Location: Philadelphia, PA (Primarily in-person, with some work from home flexibility)

Position Type: Full-time

Pay: $45,000 - $50,000 per year, depending on position, qualifications, and experience

About Friends Research Institute: Friends Research Institute is a dynamic and innovative research organization dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge in the fields of substance abuse, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and criminal justice. We are proud to be the recipient of several National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants, enabling us to conduct groundbreaking research to combat the challenges associated with the ongoing opioid and other substance use disorder epidemics. We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Research Assistant to join our team and contribute to our NIH-funded projects under the mentorship and direction of Dr. Karen Alexander.

Position Summary: As a Research Assistant at Friends Research Institute on the Philly NavSTAR study, you will play a vital role in a large clinical trial of patient navigation following acute hospitalization for people with untreated opioid use disorder. The successful candidate will work closely with the research team, including PIs Dr. Alexander and Dr. Gryczynski, assisting in various aspects of the research process, including data collection during and following the hospitalization. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic and impactful team working to improve public health outcomes associated with social determinants of health and opioid use disorder.

Key Responsibilities:

· Data Collection: Assist in collecting and maintaining research data, including participant recruitment within the hospital and follow-up interviews in the community

· Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, attend team meetings

· Compliance: Ensure that all research activities adhere to ethical and regulatory guidelines.

· Literature Review: Conduct literature reviews to stay current with the latest research findings and assist in the development of research proposals and manuscripts.

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., public health, sociology, psychology, or nursing) is required.

· Previous research experience is preferred.

· Strong interest in public health or addiction research.

· Excellent organizational and communication skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

· Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Satisfactory completion of Friends Research Institute’s background check process, and onboarding processes at participating hospitals.
