The Foothill-De Anza Community College District is currently accepting applications for the faculty position of Instructor, Music: Director of Instrumental Ensembles and Comprehensive Musicianship, De Anza College.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION INCLUDE:

  • Direct instrumental music ensembles (including, but not limited to chamber orchestra and concert band); oversee student chamber music groups.
  • Teach courses in music, including comprehensive musicianship for majors, music fundamentals, and survey courses.
  • Commit to diversifying the curriculum delivery to best meet the evolving needs of our students (e.g., credit for prior learning, competency-based education, short courses, dual enrollment, noncredit, formerly incarcerated student offerings.)
  • Oversee the budget for the Music Program.
  • Provide leadership and planning for quarterly student music concerts and recitals.
  • Engage with the community as a representative of the discipline and department; promote classes to prospective students and music majors; provide onboarding and mentoring to music majors.
  • Complete Program Review focusing on student success, completion, retention, and persistence data, analyzing for impacts on diverse categories of student groups.
  • Complete annual equipment resource request form.
  • Assist dean to hire and provide support to part-time music faculty.
  • Assist dean in quarterly scheduling duties for the music program.
  • Faculty are expected to engage in standard faculty duties on campus throughout the academic year. Standard duties include developing and evaluating curricula, (both credit and noncredit); assessing course and program Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs); maintaining scheduled office hour; attending department and division meetings; pursuing professional growth activities; serving on district and/or college-wide planning work; and performing other duties consistent with the role of an instructor. Instructors also can participate in campus extra-curricular activities.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


  1. Understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socio-economic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff.
  2. Master's in music OR Bachelor's in music and Master's in humanities OR the equivalent.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others.
  2. Effective oral and written communication skills.
  3. Teaching experience in music at a community college in a multicultural setting.
  4. Experience teaching online, experience with online pedagogy and instructional technology/learning management systems in both online and hybrid settings.
  5. Experience directing Concert Band and Orchestra and organizing quarterly student music concerts.
  6. Knowledge of the California Community College population and the ability to organize and communicate course content for a range of entry-level to post-graduate students.
  7. Experience developing inclusive and effective culturally responsive classroom activities.
  8. Knowledge of contemporary trends in music.
  9. Experience developing and writing music curriculum.

HIRING RANGE: $72,704.00 - $119,405.00 annually plus benefits; actual placement is based on applicant's verified education and experience.
