Multnomah County Library (MCL) is pleased to announce we’re currently hiring a Conflict Resolution and Equity Analyst to join our team.
In this role, under the supervision of the Library Equity and Inclusion Manager, you will work with library staff and management to train and provide cross cultural conflict mediation and resolution, you will be responsible for supporting our staff’s ongoing equity and inclusion work, supporting the work of the Workforce Equity Strategic Plan (WESP) and supporting equity efforts focused on our patrons and community.
You will also provide strategic advice and consultation for the library on equity and inclusion principles and practices, and provide technical guidance and implementation support for the WESP. The WESP is a strategic roadmap for advancing the County’s equity and inclusion work and bring us to a place where we center race and intersectionality. Through coaching, mentoring, consulting and training, you will build the capacity and understanding of employees to successfully integrate and demonstrate core competencies of the WESP. You will collaborate with Human Resources staff, Library Organizational Learning, and the County Office of Diversity & Equity to advance equity work in teams and programs and ensure that processes and outcomes are both in alignment with a trauma-informed and racial equity framework.
Working in the spirit of collaboration, you will facilitate processes that foster trust, growth and belonging. In working to resolve workplace tensions, you will respect the dignity of all parties and uphold confidentiality, while you promote a work culture of respect and understanding for the highly diverse populations the library serves. Multnomah County, and Multnomah County Library specifically has diversified quickly over the last several years. As such Equity work at the library continues to move from the transactional to the transformative. To this end, the Conflict Resolution and Equity Analyst will be responsible for the ongoing work of creating and facilitating environments and opportunities for effective cross-cultural communication and engagement. This means a successful candidate for this position is able to navigate cultural difference and conflict in both a respectful and ethical manner, while at the same time creating multiple and varied opportunities for access and inclusion.

Hybrid Telework: This position is designated as “hybrid telework,” meaning you will be working both remotely (from home) and in person at an onsite location. The designation of Hybrid Telework may be subject to change at a future time. All employees must reside in Oregon or Washington; the county cannot support ongoing telework from other locations. The temporary onsite work location for this position is the Library Operations Center located at 221 NE 122nd Avenue, Portland, Oregon 97230. Once Albina Library opens in the Summer of 2025, the work location for this position will move to 205 NE Russell St, Portland, Oregon 97212.
Serving the Public, Even During Disasters
Everyday, Multnomah County staff work together to serve as a safety net for our communities. During a disaster, this safety net becomes even more critical. All County employees have a role in serving the public during inclement weather, natural disaster, or other types of community emergency response. During these emergency responses, while typically there begins with a call for volunteers, county employees may ultimately be reassigned from their current position to a role in the emergency response in order to support the critical needs presented by our communities.
