Agile Coach

Houston TX 77002 - hybrid (3x onsite)

12 weeks

End Customer: CenterPoint Energy

Location: Downtown Houston



Project Details: Provide organized and purposeful coaching and training to product members, managers, and leaders as they navigate Agile transformations and continuous improvement journeys, adopting a growth mindset.



Must have skills:

  • 3+ years of experience in Agile Coaching at the product team level
  • Experience coaching agile teams (developers, product owners, business analysts, testers, product managers, team leads), implementing distributed agile patterns, leveraging prioritization and business value techniques
  • Experience delivering agile training and workshops to (developers, product owners, business analysts, testers, product managers, and team leads) both in person and virtual, conducting periodic Agile maturity assessments and coaching plans focused on continuous improvements
  • Experience being a part of and coaching through an agile transformation
  • Leadership presentation and influence, ability to facilitate/hold space commandingly for large groups
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply agile scaling patterns, road mapping, and big room planning

Soft Skills:

  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Time management and prioritization skills

Nice to have skills:

  • Scaling systems workshop and/or certifications
  • Expert-level coaching certifications

Education/certification requirements:

  • In computer science, computer information systems engineering, business, or related discipline
  • Agile Scrum, Product Owner, or Scrum Master certifications (such as Certified Scrum Master) required

Day-to-day responsibilities:

  1. Agile Expertise: Ensure the coaching service includes experienced Agile coaches with proven track records in various Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) and SAFe Framework.
  2. Customization: We are in the process of the transformation and working with a consulting partner and their coaches. There is an expectation that your coaches will meet us where we are and will support the processes in place at CenterPoint Energy. Please provide your approach on how your coaching service will perform KT from existing consulting partner and move forward.
  3. Scalability: Ability to scale coaching efforts based on the size and complexity of teams activated. CenterPoint would have the ability to update capacity on a quarterly basis. In the beginning, we are looking for product level team coaches.
  4. Continuous Improvement: Incorporate mechanisms for feedback and continuous improvement in coaching practices. Coaches should be open to feedback and actively seek ways to enhance their effectiveness.
  5. Coaching materials: Coaches will continue to maintain existing CNP coaching materials (Playbook, bootcamp materials, team blueprints to activate teams, training, templates, etc.)
  6. Change Management Support: Help in managing organizational change that comes with Agile adoption. Coaches should assist in overcoming resistance and fostering a culture of agility.
  7. Training and Enablement: Offer training programs or workshops to build internal Agile capability among teams and leadership. This includes Agile fundamentals, advanced practices, and leadership coaching. We have a CNP coach today, please include how you would continue to grow/develop this person's coaching skillset.
  8. Metrics and Evaluation: Define measurable outcomes and metrics to assess the effectiveness of Agile coaching. This could include team productivity improvements, time-to-market reduction, quality metrics, etc.
  9. Collaboration and Communication: Foster collaboration between Agile teams, stakeholders, and leadership. Coaches should facilitate effective communication channels and practices.
  10. Reporting and Transparency: Regularly report on coaching activities, progress, and challenges. Transparency helps in understanding the impact of coaching efforts and identifying areas for improvement.
  11. Support for Agile Transformation: Beyond coaching teams, support organizational-level Agile transformation initiatives. This involves aligning Agile practices with business objectives and strategic goals.
  12. Ethical Standards and Professionalism: Ensure coaches adhere to ethical standards and best practices in coaching. This includes confidentiality, respect for individuals, and professionalism in their interactions.
